Module 4 – Leadership Communication

When work is urgent and deadlines loom, every leader is tempted to take on pressing work themselves. (How many times have you thought: “I might as well do it myself”?)

However, the D.I.Y. approach doesn’t scale. As the 2008 government report ‘Engaging for Success’ found, engaging managers tend to “facilitate and empower rather than control or restrict their staff”.

That’s why this module focuses on achieving results through others.

You’ll learn:

• Why ‘telling people what to do’ is the least effective way to communicate – and what to do instead
• How to recognise the frustrations that come with ‘working through others’ – and accept that others will do a task differently to you. (You can’t clone yourself!)
• How to balance achieving your own work with moving your team forward, and working closely with individuals
